Why A Tincture?

Before there were pills, there were tinctures. There are numerous methods to deliver cannabis oil into the bloodstream. The tincture method is the most accurate. Edibles tend to be inconsistent in potency and they are usually made with processed sugar. When smoking or vaping, one cannot get the consistent amount of oil into the system time and time again. Smoking or vaping cannot deliver the sometimes necessary amount of oil to the bloodstream.

Tinctures are also the most accurate way to adjust the dose. This is very useful when working with the THC cannabinoid because of its psychoactive properties. For example, If a person wants to micro dose, they can pull the oil up to the .25ml mark on the dropper and accurately get a small and accurate amount in their system compared to their normal .75ml dose.

I’m not dismissing the effectiveness of other delivery methods, I’m acknowledging the control and accuracy of a tincture. Control of variables is important when practicing medicine. The tinctures take approximately 30 minutes to enter the bloodstream. Keep this in mind. I can think of three applications where 30 minutes is too long to wait. Panic attacks, nausea, and anger management. In the case of those three vaping or smoking is the correct method because of the immediate infiltration into the bloodstream, therefore immediate relief.

How To Use A Tincture

- Pull the oil up to the desired mark on the dropper.

- Put the oil underneath the tongue for approximately 60 seconds.

- If the taste is uncomfortable, cover the taste with water, another drink, or food.

How To Calculate Dosing Potencies

  • Find the total milligrams (mg) in the bottle.

  • Divide the total milligrams (mg) by the total milliliters (ml).

  • That number you came up with by dividing is your potency per ml.

  • Each full dropper is 1ml. Divide further if needed.
